Kilgore ISD trustees approve budget amendment, new innovative courses and expanded paid dual-credit

Miss Hall presented the final 2024–25 budget adjustments and told trustees the packet includes transfers between functions and a board-approved withdrawal of $144,009.75 from the construction fund balance to the operating fund to finance athletic locker-room work. A trustee moved to authorize the transfer and adopt Budget Amendment No. 8; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Miss Cox presented a slate of state-approved innovative courses for 2025–26: a new general employability/soft-skills course for the middle school and courses at the high school including leadership, kinesiology, retail management, sports marketing and forensic psychology. Trustee Snead moved to approve the courses; Trustee Henson seconded and the motion carried.
On dual credit, Miss Cox asked the board to amend the district's paid dual-credit procedures so KISD will pay for limited sophomore-level CTE dual-credit courses (generally up to one sophomore course per semester, with larger allowances in junior and senior years under the described limits) and to continue leveraging savings from House Bill 8 that reduced per-semester costs for eligible students. A trustee moved to adopt the update; the motion was seconded and carried.
