Mayor Joe Lee presented Ordinance M2022-03-14, which consolidates prior animal-control measures. Council Member Linda Crowe moved to suspend the rules to consider the ordinance that night; Council Member Matt Morris seconded the motion and a roll-call vote recorded all present AYE. The council then voted to adopt Ordinance M2022-03-14 by unanimous vote.
The council also approved a set of budgeted purchases and contracts: renewal of the library’s ProQuest Heritage Quest Online subscription for $1,128.26; a Garrett PD6500i walk-through metal detector for court operations not to exceed $5,100; AFFF foam and turnout gear for the fire department (the turnout purchase was noted as exempt from bid-law requirements under Ala. Code §41-16-51(15)); repair of a 2006 Ford Expedition; purchase of pickleball equipment for parks; senior-center fitness instruction ($600 total for April–September); and purchase of 12 additional 60th‑anniversary banners for $635.76. The council also approved payment of $1,100 to St. Clair County for transport of two deceased bodies (one council member abstained on that vote).
Council Member Lynn Taylor moved to accept the city audit for the year ending Sept. 30, 2021 from Truitt, Tingle, Paramore & Argent, LLC; the motion carried unanimously. Mayor Joe Lee also moved to sponsor the Miracle League 5K for $5,000; the council approved the sponsorship unanimously.
