Moody council approves CDBG fire-protection contract, equipment purchases and architects agreement

In a single meeting the Moody City Council approved a CDBG-funded fire-protection contract and engineering costs, multiple equipment and uniform purchases, installation of four fire hydrants, and a professional services agreement with CMH Architects for the police headquarters project.
At its Nov. 22, 2021 meeting, the Moody City Council approved a package of routine purchases and contracts, including a CDBG-funded contract for fire-protection improvements at Moody Industrial Park and a professional-services agreement for the police headquarters and court building.
The council accepted the lowest bid for the CDBG fire-protection improvement project and authorized entering a contract with Jet Pep, Inc. for $99,150.00, with engineering, construction management and inspection services for $15,467.40 to be provided by Hager Co. The action appears under Resolution R2021-11-22B and was approved unanimously.
Other approved expenditures included: purchase of one X26P Taser from Gulf States Distributions ($1,268.95, budget 513-4300); travel and leadership training for Assistant Chief Freeman and Lt. Smith in Florence, AL ($538.07, budget 513-1500); ryegrass for athletic fields from the Talladega County Exchange co-op ($1,370.00, Park and Grounds Upkeep 01-551-1000); key fobs for the Civic Center from Badgepass ($300.00, Office Expense 01-526-2001); repair of Rescue 1 rear shocks and tire service from JB Automotive ($385.00, budget 01-514-4502); uniform purchases from Sew Nice ($400.00) and Galls ($350.00); and ordering four new fire hydrants from Odenville Water ($14,000.00, capital).
The council also approved an agreement with CMH Architects to provide architectural and engineering services on the Police Headquarters and Court Building and voted to cancel the Dec. 27, 2021 council meeting. A separate motion authorized Chief/Thomas Hunt to attend Lt. Hicks' National Academy graduation in Virginia (Dec. 15–16) at a cost of $500 (travel budget 513-1200). Tim Senft's request to purchase driving school books from Alabama Safety Institute ($508.66) was approved.
Public comment included a resident's request about paving a deteriorated private road; city staff stated the street is private and that subdivision regulations apply. Nearly all items were approved by unanimous votes; the minutes record only one abstention earlier in the meeting on the Nov. 8 minutes.
