Kilgore ISD construction update: CO unlikely in March; move-in pushed to summer, gym due Aug. 2026

Kilgore — Architects and project staff updated the Kilgore ISD Board on progress at the new high school and related site work on Jan. 20, but cautioned that the March certificate of occupancy (CO) is unlikely and that move-in is now planned for summer.

Kendall Edwards of Lakeville Architects reviewed renderings and project status, describing interior work on the humanities and makerspace areas and noting that the front circle drive has been poured and portions of the west parking lot are in place. On schedule questions, a presenter said, “The March forecast is probably not gonna happen as far as getting the CO for the building,” and advised that teachers are still expected to move into the building in July and that the school will open for classes as scheduled in the fall.

The construction presenters described current site activities: scaffolding in the gym and auditorium that should come down when punch-list items are resolved; EIFS exterior finish beginning; tile and interior glazing being installed; and storm‑drain work where the team encountered a large drainage pipe (referred to in the presentation as roughly a 72‑inch pipe) that required coordination with the contractor and the city.

Administrators said some furniture, scoreboards and other large items have been delayed and are being stored; the district also is coordinating city inspections after recent concrete pours. The architects and construction managers urged continued coordination to complete punch-list items and ready the building for occupancy when final inspections and the CO are achieved.

No board action was required; the item was provided for information and will continue to be monitored through regular construction reports.
