"She was extremely uncomfortable, very embarrassed, very humiliated," Clayton said. She told the board statements were taken at the time but said the punished student was still allowed to participate in athletics and sit with the team at the next game, which the commenter described as a discrepancy from prior discipline for similar behavior.
Trustees asked Clayton to confirm the date (she said Sept. 22) and the time (she could not recall the exact period but said it occurred during an athletic period). Board members and administrators clarified that discipline would be governed by the student handbook and student code of conduct; administrators said the district had followed standard student-discipline procedures and that earlier incidents had resulted in different sanctions.
Clayton urged the board to review how such incidents are handled and to ensure consistent application of discipline and protections for students who experience such humiliating events.
The board did not take immediate action during public comment; administrators offered to follow up through appropriate channels and reminded attendees of the district's complaint and discipline processes.
