The Vidor ISD Board of Trustees approved an overnight out-of-state trip request for Vidor High senior and FFA president Casey Shivers to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 26–Nov. 2.
Penny Singleton, representing the FFA and speaking for absent staff, told trustees that Shivers earned an invitation as an area officer and will serve as a voting delegate at the national event. "She will represent the district, but the area FFA will be paying for most of the trip," Singleton said, adding the district's remaining balance was approximately $676; the FFA plans to raise funds to cover that amount.
Deputy Superintendent Travis Maines said it was appropriate to bring the request to the board because district policy requires board approval for out-of-state travel. Trustees asked about fundraising plans; staff said they would provide details as they are finalized. The motion to approve travel passed unanimously 6–0 with one absence.
Next steps: staff will document fundraising arrangements and provide trip logistics to trustees and families.
