Bond projects move forward: Vidor ISD reports footings, steel schedules and asbestos abatement

District construction staff updated trustees on bond-funded work and schedules at the Sept. 8 board meeting.
Mister Bennett said Vidor Elementary's construction officially began Sept. 2. At Vidor Middle School, footings for the 300 wing have been poured with the objective of completing slabs and receiving scheduled steel delivery on Sept. 25; the contractor expects to sequence steel erection so slab work and block installation follow without delay. "Our actual start date was September 2," Bennett said.
Bennett said the GMP (guaranteed maximum price) for Pine Forest Elementary has been received and will be presented to the board later this month; the GMP came in within budget despite adding a retention pond and a fire-water tank. He also reported asbestos surveys at the Vidor High School practice gym found a very small amount of asbestos limited to piping insulation that a licensed abatement contractor will remove within the month.
Trustees asked how parking and phasing would be handled during elementary construction; staff said a two-phase approach will create a new front parking lot and shift staff parking to the rear once phase one is complete.
Next steps: staff expects steel erection to be underway at the middle school and Oak Forest Elementary by the October report and will present the Pine Forest GMP at a later meeting.
