"It's about a 66,000 right around roughly 66,000 total square feet for the building," the presenter said, describing two stories of classrooms, a covered portico for weather drop-off, a secure vestibule and a straightened library edge to improve circulation. The plans call for lengthening the parking lot along Orange Street and reconfiguring bus pull‑offs so buses can load without backing up traffic.
Notable program spaces include cosmetology on the first floor with a secure client vestibule, life‑skills rooms with OT and PT space, two commercial-style culinary classrooms feeding two separate cooking areas and a pantry, two art rooms with kiln access and outdoor balcony workspace, new administration and counselor offices distributed across campus, and a larger consolidated nurse area replacing two smaller nurse rooms.
Trustees asked about retention and whether the design would extend concrete in front of the gym; the presenter said no retention was required for the square‑footage noted and that existing concrete in front of the gym will not be extended. The plan also includes a firewall between the existing building and the new structure and an elevator near the front stairwell.
The presentation concluded with a request for any questions; trustees commended the design team and community committee for feedback that shaped the plans. The project will continue through design and permitting before returning to the board for approvals tied to the bond program.
