Vidor ISD bond update: Pine Forest gets notice to proceed; water intrusion at Viner addressed

The Vidor Independent School District Board of Trustees received a monthly bond and construction update on Dec. 8 when bond presenter Bennett reported roughly $2,000,000 in project costs over the past month and said all active projects remain on schedule.
Bennett said Pine Forest Elementary received an official notice to proceed Dec. 8 and is on a 12‑month schedule with projected completion on Dec. 8, 2026. He reported steady progress at Viner Middle School, where steel has been erected on one of the classroom wing additions and block work is nearing completion on several wings. At Bowyer High School, gym demolition is underway and the gym floor has been largely removed.
Addressing recent heavy rains, Bennett told trustees custodial staff and contractors responded quickly after custodial staff discovered about one inch of water in two classrooms in the 300 wing. “They sandbagged across that entire elevation,” he said; he added roofing work scheduled for the week should provide a permanent fix. He told the board the intrusion appears to have caused no damage to furniture, ceilings or electrical systems.
Bennett summarized work at Oak Forest and Vyra Elementary, noting the new drainage system at Vyra performed as designed, and said slabs for field houses and roofing installation are upcoming milestones. He closed by thanking boarding staff and contractors for maintaining progress despite weather setbacks and invited questions from trustees.
The update included discussion of how rooms will be used and a separate timeline for grade realignment: staff said major grade moves, including fifth-grade reassignments, are planned for the 2027–28 school year and campuses will be allowed to use completed rooms earlier at their discretion.
No board action was required on the update itself.
