Abilene ISD trustees certify Nov. 4 tax ratification election; proposition passes

A clerk for the board explained the meeting’s purpose and legal basis, saying, "The purpose of this meeting is to canvas the returns and declare the official results of the voter approval tax ratification election held on 11/04/2025 in Taylor and Jones Counties, Texas," and cited applicable state law and the certified county tabulations. The clerk read county returns aloud, reporting Taylor County with 4,145 votes in favor and Jones County with 32 votes in favor; the transcript’s Taylor County "against" figure was unclear, while the clerk gave combined district totals as 4,177 for and 3,499 against.
The chair then moved to approve the official canvass. "At this time, the chair will entertain a motion to approve the official canvass of the 11/04/2025 voter approval tax ratification election as presented," the chair said. Trustee Danny Wheat made the motion, and Trustee Billy Enriquez seconded it.
The board took a roll-call vote. Trustee Billy Enriquez voted yes; Trustee Rodney Goodman voted yes; Trustees Cindy Earls, Angie Wiley and Blair Schroeder were recorded as absent; Trustee Taylor Tidmore voted yes; and Trustee Danny Wheat voted yes. The chair announced, "Motion passes 4 to 0." On behalf of the board the chair declared the official results and stated, "Based on these official results, the proposition has passed." The chair also said the certification will be entered into the official minutes and filed in the district election records as required under Texas law.
The clerk noted the meeting had been posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and cited Texas Election Code Chapter 67 as the statutory basis requiring the board, acting as canvassing authority, to canvass the official returns provided by Taylor and Jones counties. There were no public comments at the meeting.
The chair adjourned the special meeting at 5:03 p.m. A staff member closed by thanking attendees and offering congratulations to Abilene ISD.
