Abilene ISD staff recommend Calendar C for 2026–27, propose EIC local edits on GPA and honors timing

Williamson said EIC local needs two clarifications after the August 2024 update: reconcile language so credit‑recovery courses are handled consistently (a recovered passing grade should count toward a student’s GPA after credit recovery) and change the timing for determining local graduation honors—valedictorian, salutatorian and top‑25—to the end of the third 9‑week grading period to reflect the district’s move from six‑week to nine‑week grading cycles.
Allison Sims summarized the calendar committee’s work and survey results: calendar C was the clear preference for students and staff and features a first day on a Wednesday, eight professional development days and several optional staff days. Sims said the committee and the district‑wide consultation committee recommended bringing draft calendar C for board adoption on Monday. The superintendent’s office noted Christmas break begins Dec. 19 and school resumes Jan. 5.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about alternative staff‑development days and how attendance thresholds would be handled under the proposed policies; staff said details and implementation processes would follow if the board approves the policy and calendar.
