Summary
At the Dec. 8 meeting a parent described receiving no direct notification when his child was identified as a victim of a threat; he urged the district to improve multiple-person communication rather than relying on a single checklist confirmation.
William "Billy" Reisner told the Canyon ISD Board of Directors during public comment that his son was identified as the victim of a threat before Thanksgiving but that parents were not properly notified.
"I was not notified of this," Reisner said, explaining he only learned of the incident from a juvenile corrections notice and a later message he posted to the school's Facebook page. He praised the school liaison officer who later called but said the district's initial communications appeared to be a checklist exercise rather than multiple direct contacts. "I don't feel like it should be a checklist," Reisner said. "There should be multiple people who contacted me over a situation like that and said, hey, I just wanna make sure we touch base with you."
Reisner said his family remains engaged with school staff to obtain more details and urged the district to avoid becoming complacent with policies and procedures. Assistant staff thanked him for coming and said staff would follow up.
The board did not take formal action during the meeting on the incident; staff said they would continue communication with the family and respond to outstanding questions.
