Franklin County approves fairgrounds expansion and two new livestock barns

Franklin County Commissioners unanimously approved construction at the county fairgrounds, voting to build two 60-foot by 100-foot livestock barns and to enlarge an Event Center addition after a later amendment.
Randy Henrie, the county's building maintenance official, and Fairgrounds Facility Manager Lana Jenkins presented carpet samples and cost estimates. Commissioners were told a 30' x 40' addition to the Event Center was estimated at about $50,000, with the 30' x 60' option costing roughly one-third more. The board initially approved the smaller addition but, after reconvening, Commissioner Zach Stewart amended his motion to approve the larger 30' x 60' addition, saying it was "better to get it done all at once instead of having to add on later." The amended motion passed unanimously.
The commissioners also approved two new 60' x 100' livestock sheds (bid at $76,000 each). For the Robinson Building the board reviewed three vacuum bids and, on the recommendation of Lana Jenkins, accepted a BradyPlus unit priced at $3,694.91 (motion by Zan Bowles; second by Zach Stewart). All votes on these items were unanimous.
The decisions are aimed at increasing fairground capacity and maintenance efficiency ahead of upcoming events. County staff will proceed with procurement and construction scheduling.
The board revisited the fairgrounds matter after the morning recess and finalized the larger Event Center footprint. The meeting then moved on to other business.
