Council approves use of insurance proceeds to repair town hall floors, gym and basement

Speaker 4 presented three bids for repairs after recent flooding: Economy Floors (Nephi) submitted a bid of $16,572 for upstairs work; a separate second bid for upstairs work was recorded as $9,175. Painting and basement repairs were estimated at $8,500 and $6,100 respectively, with an additional floor-ripe/paint estimate of $1,600. Speaker 4 said the remaining insurance proceeds after the upstairs work would be roughly $14,713.99 and proposed adding $2,300 to the budget to complete the gym and basement work.
"I would like to move forward with spending the insurance money on the gym, the basement, the flooring, and the upstairs carpet tile," speaker 4 said, and the council agreed to proceed. Contractors were tentatively scheduled to start the upstairs carpet work on July 14.
Council also discussed removing an underused drinking fountain to avoid maintenance and sanitation issues; staff and the town lawyer were asked to confirm whether removal would conflict with ADA or other building-code requirements before any removal.
Next step: staff will finalize contracts with selected vendors, provide on-site access and keys as needed, and report back on final costs and any additional budget adjustments.
