Leslie Hackett, who oversees district library services, described a multi‑layer review: campus librarians perform an initial internal read and complete a review tile that walks titles through compliance checks against state laws and board policy (including SB13, House Bill 1525, Senate Bill 9 and EFB local). Titles that clear campus and district review are posted on the district’s public dashboard for a 30‑day comment period before the board considers approval.
Hackett said the district has adjusted timelines because the law and policy updates created a backlog; moving forward, new rosters will be posted and cycled monthly so campus librarians can plan orders to have materials available by the start of school. She noted the January roster is live on the dashboard and that most titles presented Monday date back to a holding pattern that began last fall while the district awaited policy updates.
Trustees asked about the vetting steps and turnaround time for donations; Hackett reiterated the process and said books require sufficient lead time for ordering and processing if campuses want titles on shelves by August start dates.
The board did not vote Monday; the roster will be presented for action in a subsequent open meeting after the public‑review period concludes.
