At the Jan. 19 Newton City Council meeting, Marcy Spivey of Martin‑Starnes & Associates presented the city’s audited financial statements for fiscal year 2020 and reported an unqualified opinion.
Spivey told council "the financial statements of the City of Newton present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position which results in an unqualified opinion," indicating auditors found no material misstatements and that accounting rules were followed. She also commended Finance Director Vickie Thomas and city finance staff for their cooperation during the audit.
City Manager Todd Clark thanked Spivey and the finance staff for their work. The audit report is on file with the city and was entered into the record at the meeting.
