Newton City Council adopts annexation for Crate & Barrel distribution site

Newton City Council on Jan. 19 adopted an annexation ordinance for approximately 60.98 acres at 1964 Stover Court, the site designated for a Crate & Barrel distribution facility.
Planning Director Randy Williams presented the petition from TKC CCXXIX, LLC, identifying the property by Catawba County PINs 3619-03-31-2117 and 3619-03-41-8379. Williams told council the site consists of 60.98 acres on the south side of NC 10 Hwy West and that zoning for the property (321‑Economic Development District‑Industrial) was established by council on Nov. 10, 2020 and would be effective pending annexation.
After the public hearing produced no speakers, the council closed the hearing and unanimously adopted the annexation ordinance; the transcript records an effective annexation date of Feb. 1, 2021.
Council Member Jody Dixon moved to adopt the annexation ordinance and Council Member Ed Sain seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The ordinance and related records are on file in the office of the city clerk.
