Council tables streetscape engineering budget amendment until Nov. 17 amid cost concerns

City Manager Todd Clark told council that additional costs surfaced after staff solicited agreements with consultants for engineering and construction plans for Phases 3 and 4 of the downtown streetscape revitalization. McGill identified an unanticipated $12,500 drainage engineering need for A Street between College and Brady avenues, and Southeastern notified staff that its prior electrical engineering proposal had expired and the new cost was $65,000. Clark said the total amended cost for engineering and construction plans was $125,500 and staff requested a $77,500 budget amendment to cover the difference.
Council Member Ed Sain said he preferred postponing the project given other pressing city needs. Council Member Jody Dixon moved to table the budget amendment until the Nov. 17, 2020 City Council meeting; Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver seconded the motion and the council voted to table the proposal unanimously.
No further action was taken at the Sept. 15 meeting. Staff indicated intent to return with the item during the Nov. 17 meeting and to coordinate engineering agreements and budget adjustments at that time.
