Jim McCulloch and Chris Gonzalez described three potential launch locations, noting the current informal put-in has large rocks and safety concerns and that some preferred sites are on private land or require right-of-way access from Bear River Summit LLC or other landowners. One option on the bend appeared to have more favorable current patterns but would still require a way through the bridge; another option would require acquiring parking ground if a private owner were willing to sell.
The presenters provided diagrams and cost illustrations and said they would attempt to contact landowners (including Jerry Brown and a property buyer from Draper) and explore funding avenues. The board discussed possibilities for safer parking and the relative cost of a smaller river-access project versus trail work.
GOAL said the access is heavily used in summer and that a safer, appropriately sited launch would reduce hazards for kayakers and boaters. The organization will report back to the board as they pursue landowner agreements and funding sources.
