Emergency management: commissioners briefed on lifting fire restrictions; purchase of a fire tender tank put on hold

Duchesne County’s emergency management director, Josh Phillips, told commissioners on Sept. 15 that state fire restrictions were expected to be lifted the following day, and staff planned to resume processing local burn permits once the state finalized its notice.
“...they should be lifting that tomorrow,” Phillips said. He advised the board that the county would continue to vet permits and monitor conditions locally.
Phillips also updated the board on an attempt to buy a fire tender tank; the vendor had tank units that have been pressure-tested but had not finalized a price for a complete tender. Phillips said he would pursue the vendor for a firm quote and, if that vendor could not supply an acceptable price, seek alternative tanks or rebuilt units as a plan B.
Commissioners asked for the vendor quotes and additional cost comparisons before authorizing a purchase. No purchase action was taken during the meeting; staff were directed to return with the outstanding vendor quotes and all procurement paperwork if a purchase is to move forward.
The emergency-management office also reported that Type 6 vehicles are back in service and crews are preparing equipment for mitigation and upcoming burn windows.
Action: no formal vote on procurement; burn-permit approvals to resume when state clears the restriction.
