Pipestone County commissioners approved two separate 2026–2027 collective bargaining agreements with AFSCME units on Feb. 24.
Human Resources Director Charlotte Seager presented the AFSCME Local 2424 Courthouse Unit agreement, which the county described as incorporating statutory updates, clarifications of benefits and leave provisions, structural pay‑plan changes and compensation adjustments for instructional duties, overtime eligibility and hazardous weather response; the pay plan includes a 3% cost‑of‑living adjustment for 2026 and 4% for 2027. The board approved the two‑year agreement and authorized the chair and county administrator to execute the contract.
Seager then presented the AFSCME Local 2024 Highway Unit agreement, which includes wage adjustments, scheduling clarifications, benefit updates, an increased apparel allowance, enhanced temporary assignment compensation and the same 3% (2026) and 4% (2027) COLAs; the board approved that contract as well.
Why it matters: The agreements set employee pay and working conditions for two county bargaining units and will be executed by the board chair and county administrator. Commissioners approved both contracts by unanimous vote.
