The Smyth County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved its 2026 strategic workplan during the Feb. 12 meeting, adopting amendments that add St. Clairs Creek and Konnarock to the county's cellular coverage goals and replace references to "county administrators" with "supervisors."
County Administrator Shawn Utt presented a summary of a recent Board retreat and the draft workplan, describing the plan's action items and strategic priorities. Chilhowie District Supervisor Michael Sturgill and Rye Valley District Supervisor Jason Parris asked that St. Clairs Creek and Konnarock be included among cellular coverage priorities. Chair Charles Atkins also asked staff to change instances of "county administrators" to "supervisors" in the document. Rye Valley District Supervisor Jason Parris moved to approve the plan as amended; Vice Chair Michael Sturgill seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The vote completes the Board's immediate next-step approvals for its retreat outcomes; staff will implement the action items and incorporate the amended language into published materials. The Board did not attach new funding authorizations to the adoption during this meeting.
