Cramerton annexes Gaston Christian Church property and rezones it R-1

The Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Jan. 21, 2025, to accept a voluntary annexation request from Gaston Christian Church for the property at 5339 S New Hope Road (Parcel ID 220598), approximately 4.69 acres within the town’s future annexation area.
Assistant Town Manager Josh Watkins explained that although the property is not contiguous to current town limits it lies within Cramerton’s sphere of influence and that state law requires a zoning designation within 60 days of annexation. The board then considered Rezoning Case RZ25-02, which would move the site from Gaston County’s R-1, Single Family Limited, to Cramerton’s R-1, Residential District. The Planning Board had reviewed the petition at its January meeting. There was no public comment during the hearings.
Commissioner Dixie Abernathy moved to approve the annexation (AN24-03); Commissioner Kathy Ramsey seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Jennifer Ramsey then moved to approve Rezoning Case RZ25-02; Commissioner Abernathy seconded and the rezoning was approved unanimously.
The board also approved a draft Statement of Consistency for rezoning decisions under N.C.G.S. 160D to accompany future approvals.
The annexation and rezoning take effect per standard municipal processes and the town will assign the municipal zoning designation within the statutory timeframe.
