Newton hires WPCOG to administer stormwater plan for $32,396

Newton City Council on July 7 approved a July 1, 2020–June 30, 2021 agreement with the Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) for administration of the city’s Stormwater Management Plan at a cost of $32,396.
Planning Director Randy Williams said the 2019 plan was prepared after Newton and neighboring cities received a Notice of Violation from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) related to MS4/NPDES requirements. Williams said WPCOG will provide technical assistance including public education, illicit discharge detection, construction‑site runoff control, post‑construction measures and pollution prevention.
Council voted unanimously to approve the agreement and funding appropriation to contract with WPCOG for the coming fiscal year.
