Panel preserves aquaculture records exemption after agency support

Representative Gentry told the subcommittee that HB 7011 "saves, the repeal of public records exemptions for specified aquaculture records held by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services," adding that the exemption covers documents such as aquaculture production records and certain lease information. Gentry said those records, especially for shellfish operations, can be "a ready made road map" that could enable unauthorized harvesting if released.
An official from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services waived in support; the chair noted one supporting witness and no opposition. There were no amendments and Representative Gentry waived closing remarks.
Clerk Kimberly called the roll and the committee voted unanimously to retain the exemptions. The measure will remain in place unless later amended or repealed by the full Legislature.
