Arts Commission raises award amounts for 2026 project grants and seeks committee volunteers

The Bellevue Arts Commission voted to approve its meeting agenda and then heard staff announce that the 2026 project-grant cycle has launched and the application will open Oct. 10. Arts Commission staff said the commission increased award tiers this year to $3,000, $5,000 and $7,000, up from the prior $1,000–$3,000 range.
The change, staff said, was intended to increase the impact of individual awards while preserving a broad pool of applicants. “The 2026 project grants have launched. The application to apply is October 10 … we have a slightly larger pool of money this year,” Arts Commission staff said, noting staff expects a healthy applicant pool through the deadline.
Staff also reviewed committee assignments for the coming year and proposed trimming commission committees to three: grants and allocations, public art, and community partnerships. Staff said the grants committee follows a strict review timeline and encouraged newer commissioners to participate.
Charles McIntyre and another commissioner (Sandra) volunteered to serve on the grants committee; staff said it will confirm final committee rosters after discussion with the chair and share a final list at the next meeting. Staff asked commissioners to name alternates when possible to avoid last-minute gaps during grant reviews.
Formal business at the start of the meeting included voice votes to approve the meeting agenda and the July 9, 2025 special-meeting minutes; both motions were carried by voice vote.
