Staff highlights new public artworks and reports KidsQuest pending purchase of Bellevue Art Museum building

Staff provided several public-art and community updates and told the commission about a pending property purchase.
Staff highlighted new installations in the BelRed Arts District and elsewhere: Yonder Sky by Po Shu Wang (interactive light and sound elements), Longboat Read Rookery outside City Hall, and temporary panels along the Spring District/Bellevue Arts District. Staff noted maintenance work completed for about 30 of 57 permanent outdoor artworks and said remaining items will be scheduled for 2027 maintenance.
On a separate community update, staff reported that KidsQuest has an accepted offer to purchase the Bellevue Art Museum building and the transaction is in due diligence. “They are now in a due diligence period. We expect that to move forward and that Kids' Quest and the Bellevue Art Museum will close on that sale likely in 2026,” staff said, and added that KidsQuest will continue operations at its current location while planning exhibits and upgrades at the museum site. Staff reminded commissioners that the museum building will require upgrades and deferred-maintenance work before it is open to the public.
Staff encouraged commissioners to visit installed public art and noted coordination with transportation partners for larger installations tied to trail and foundation work.
