The Planning & Zoning Board heard a brief director’s report on Nov. 20 that a special meeting has been scheduled for Dec. 18 to consider a proposed lease of approximately 8 acres of city‑owned property downtown.
Director’s announcement and board clarification Brandon Chadd, development services director, said the special meeting will be to consider a lease of about eight acres on the east side of 2nd Avenue between Palmetto Park Road and 3rd Street and that the board is expected to evaluate planning and land‑use fit and make a recommendation to the City Council. When asked whether the board would be reviewing the financial viability of the deal, Chadd said the code does not specify the board’s role precisely but that the board’s logical role is to consider planning implications — not to undertake a financial viability review.
Site composition questions Board members asked whether the acreage includes the former police station, the former library and an adjacent empty lot; Chadd confirmed the general parcel locations and reiterated the board will focus on planning considerations. The special meeting is scheduled for Dec. 18 and will return a formal recommendation to council, per the director.
