Board approves property tax renewal, routine financial and personnel measures

The Walker County Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to renew property taxes and a series of routine financial and personnel measures at its Jan. 8, 2026, meeting.

Chairman Brad Ingle presided as the board approved the meeting agenda and a set of administrative items, including minutes from the Dec. 11, 2025, meeting; the November 2025 check register, bank reconciliation and financial statements; and the regular, professional and support personnel lists. Motions were made and seconded by board members and carried by unanimous vote.

The board also approved four educational and extracurricular field trips: Dora High cheerleading to Orlando (Jan. 28–Feb. 2, 2026); Valley Jr High 7th & 8th Grade Beta Club state convention in Birmingham (Feb. 17–19, 2026); WCCT Alabama HOSA State Leadership Conference in Montgomery (Feb. 25–27, 2026); and Lupton Jr High Beta Club conventions in Birmingham (Feb. 17–18, 2026). Trustees approved the customary $500 reimbursement stipend for Valley Jr High Beta Club and Lupton Jr High Beta Club, described in the meeting as a standard allowance because all students benefit from knowledge gained by attendees.

The board approved a facility use agreement allowing Oakman High to use Midway Church of Christ facilities and renewed Nick Myers as a volunteer baseball coach at Oakman High School. The session closed after the board approved a resolution to renew property taxes and authorized Superintendent Dr. Dennis Willingham to sign any necessary documents on the board’s behalf.

All recorded motions were unanimous. The board adjourned at 4:46 p.m.
