Commission approves payroll and claims, hires new pickup and adopts consent items

The Carter County Board of Commissioners approved routine business Tuesday, voting to pay payroll and claims, award a replacement vehicle and adopt the consent agenda.
In morning business, a commissioner moved to approve payroll in the amount of $328,573.55 and claims of $356,402.02; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. "Mister chairman, I move that we make payment of payroll in the amount of $328,573.55 and claims in the amount of $356,402.02," the commissioner said.
Later in the meeting public works staff reported that a county pickup had been totaled after a deer collision and recommended purchasing a new plain half-ton truck with an eight-foot bed for roughly $39,098 plus a grill guard at about $1,500. A commissioner moved to approve an approximate $41,500 purchase for a new vehicle with warranty; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
At the meeting’s close the board approved its consent agenda, which included the commissioners’ proceedings from Oct. 23, an inmate medical insurance agreement and reimbursement number 4 on pavement maintenance. The motion to approve those items passed on a voice vote after the chair asked for public comment and none was offered.
What’s next: County staff will proceed with payment processing, vehicle procurement and required administrative follow-up for the consent items.
