Commissioners certify Ekalaka vote and adopt 2026 polling-place resolution

County election staff presented the unofficial canvass for the Town of Ekalaka and asked the board to certify the results and designate polling places for the 2026 primary and general elections.
Judy Wright, the county election administrator, told commissioners she had recounted ballots and reported results for mayoral candidates (Buck Kratzer led with 116 votes; another candidate had 45) and noted one overvote and mail-ballot return rates. She explained the new affirmation-envelope form requires voters to provide a birth year and that the county mails ballots to active registered voters per state practice. "All in all, the election went well," she said.
Wright then presented Resolution No. 11-17-2025-01, which designates polling places: El Zeta at the El Zeta School; Hammond at the Boys Community Hall; Town of Ekalaka at the Events Center; rural Ekalaka at the Events Center. A commissioner moved to adopt the resolution, another seconded, and the board approved it by voice vote.
The board signed the canvas paperwork to certify the unofficial results and instructed staff to file the canvas paperwork with the Secretary of State's office as required.
