Superintendent reports sharp drop in chronic absenteeism, updates enrollment and budget assumptions

Dr. Bart Reeves, superintendent of Albertville City Schools, reported at the board’s Oct. 21 meeting that the district’s chronic absenteeism rate declined from 15.98% in the first nine weeks of 2024 to 8.55% in the first nine weeks of 2025 — a 7.43 percentage-point improvement that places the district below the state target of 10%.
Reeves credited teachers, attendance teams, administrators and parents for the improvement and said the metric is used for state and federal reporting. He also told the board the district’s current enrollment is 5,496 students (K–12), and noted the FY26 budget had been based on a submission of 5,713 students in fall 2024. Reeves said the FY27 Education Trust Fund (ETF) budget will be based on 5,523 students submitted in September 2025, a difference of 190 students from the FY26 submission; the superintendent clarified that those figures exclude PreK and cover K–12 only.
The board was informed that the Alabama Association of School Boards will administer CSFO and superintendent evaluations and that the results will be presented at the Dec. 16 board meeting. Reeves also reminded the board of scheduled November and December meeting dates and of the district’s next-day release schedule for board minutes and the ACS Board Brief.
