Superintendent reports enrollment decline and outlines capital-project updates for Albertville City Schools

Dr. Bart Reeves, superintendent of Albertville City Schools, reported on Jan. 13 that district K–12 enrollment was 5,500 as of the morning of the board meeting, down 23 students since October.
"As of this morning, we have 5,500 (-23 from Oct) students district wide," Dr. Reeves said during his superintendent’s report. He noted the district’s FY26 budget was based on an enrollment figure of 5,713 submitted to the state in fall 2024 and that the FY27 ETF budget will be based on 5,523 students submitted in September 2025 — a 190-student decrease relative to the FY26 budget basis.
Dr. Reeves also provided capital-improvement updates. He said the district will hold a second meeting with the architect on plans for the K–1 school; planning for a transportation and maintenance building will include discussion of a 40-plus-acre site south of APS/AES; work on the AES gym will briefly slow to allow metal fabrication, with vertical construction to resume after materials are delivered in late February; and installation of Albertville High School gym bleachers is expected to begin in April, preceded by contractor meetings with coaches and staff to review design and installation details.
