Marshall County Board of Education approves agenda and a slate of personnel actions

The Marshall County Board of Education met Aug. 21, 2025, and unanimously approved the meeting agenda and a series of personnel actions recommended by Superintendent Dr. Cindy Wigley.
Superintendent Dr. Cindy Wigley recommended approval of the agenda and noted upcoming board meetings on Aug. 28, Sept. 10 (budget hearing) and Sept. 11 (budget hearing). She also provided an enrollment update. The agenda was approved on a motion by Mr. Terry Kennamer and seconded by Mrs. Laura Byars.
The board voted unanimously to approve a package of additional duties, supplements and stipends for the 2025–2026 school year. Personnel actions included assigning Brian Edmonds additional counseling duties for Marshall County Online School and supplements for teachers at Douglas Learning Center and Douglas Elementary School, including designations for Special Olympics sponsors. The board also approved a Title I–funded summer stipend program for Douglas Middle School Vertical Team meetings at $100 per day for listed staff.
The board approved temporary contracts and agreements, including Beth Hanner as a part-time special education teacher at Marshall County Online School (effective Aug. 1, 2025–May 31, 2026), Jada King as a long-term substitute at Asbury Elementary School (effective Aug. 20–Dec. 19, 2025), McKenna Anderson as a long-term substitute at Douglas Elementary School (effective Aug. 1–Oct. 31, 2025), Joan Grimes for part-time homebound services (Aug. 1, 2025–May 31, 2026), and Pamela Campbell for part-time math intervention at DAR Primary School (effective Aug. 25, 2025–May 31, 2026). Mr. Terry Kennamer moved approval of the contract slate; Mr. Tony Simmons seconded.
Transfers approved included Gabriela Salazar moving from Migrant Liaison (10 months) at Sloman Primary School to Instructional Assistant/Family Engagement (Bilingual) (9 months) at Sloman Primary School effective Aug. 25, 2025, and Steve Cook reassigned from bus driver at Brindlee Mountain School to bus driver at Douglas High School effective Aug. 19, 2025.
New hires approved were Natalie Jones as a Child Nutrition Program worker at Douglas Middle School (effective Aug. 29, 2025, pending background check), Seath Hardin as a teacher at Douglas Elementary School (effective Aug. 11, 2025), Terry Gilbreath as a teacher at Douglas Middle School (effective Sept. 9, 2025), Dakota Jimmerson as a bus mechanic for Marshall County Schools (effective Aug. 25, 2025, pending background check) and Lisa Johnson as a custodian at Douglas High School (effective Aug. 20, 2025). Several hires were explicitly noted as pending background checks in the minutes.
All motions recorded in the minutes carried by unanimous vote. The meeting was adjourned after the approvals.
The board’s next scheduled meetings are Aug. 28 and the budget hearings on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, 2025.
