Marshall County Board unanimously approves staffing, contracts and transfers for 2025–26 school year

The Marshall County Board of Education on July 31 unanimously approved multiple personnel actions to prepare district schools for the 2025–26 academic year, Superintendent Cindy Wigley said.
Wigley recommended approval of multi-year TEAMS contracts across several schools, and the board voted to approve the presented list. Mr. Mark Rains moved to approve the TEAMS contracts and Mrs. Laura Byars seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The contracts include multi-year agreements for staff at Asbury High School, Brindlee Mountain High School, DAR Middle School, Douglas Middle School and others.
The board also approved a package of temporary contract services covering part-time interventionists, a crossing guard, assistant principals, a long-term substitute and counseling staff. The motion to approve the temporary contracts was made by Mr. Terry Kennamer and seconded by Mrs. Laura Byars and passed unanimously. The agenda notes that one temporary occupational therapy assistant is pending a background check; other hires list pending certification renewals where applicable.
Separately, the board approved several additional-duty assignments (for example, a teacher assigned bus-aide duties and a PE instructional aide assigned bus-driver duties) and a School Resource Officer hourly assignment under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department. The SRO additional-duty motion listed Kristian Bush by name and was approved unanimously.
The board voted unanimously to approve personnel transfers effective mainly August 1, 2025, including moves between elementary and primary campuses and a transfer that was noted as pending certification renewal. The board also approved appointing Deeya Holland to probationary principal at Sloman Primary School for July 24, 2025–June 30, 2027; Mr. Tony Simmons moved the appointment and Mr. Terry Kennamer seconded.
Wigley presented a slate of new employees — primarily teachers and counselors with effective dates of August 1, 2025 — and the board approved those hires unanimously. Several entries in the minutes explicitly note that hires are subject to background checks or certification (for example, a long-term substitute through Oct. 24, 2025, and certain hires pending certification). The board concluded the business by approving adjournment by unanimous vote.
The board did not record dissenting votes on any personnel or contract items during the July 31 meeting. The next board meeting dates listed in the minutes are August 7, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. and August 28, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
