Opelika City Schools board approves personnel recommendations, several out-of-state student trips and surplus equipment

The Opelika City Schools Board of Education on Dec. 17 unanimously approved the minutes from its Nov. 18 meeting, the superintendent's personnel recommendations, multiple out-of-state student field trips and the declaration of broken or outdated equipment as surplus.
Antione T. Harvis moved to approve the minutes from the Nov. 18, 2025, regular meeting; Pearson Alsobrook seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board then approved the superintendent’s personnel recommendations after a motion by Harvis and a second from Alsobrook.
The board considered requests for several out-of-state student trips from Opelika High School: OHS Ovations Show Choir to Laurel, Mississippi (Feb. 7, 2026) and to Tifton, Georgia (March 7, 2026); OHS Robotics to the Orlando Regional FIRST Robotics competition (March 17–22, 2026) and the Bayou Regional in Kenner, Louisiana (April 1–4, 2026); and OHS Mu Alpha Theta to Six Flags Education Day in Austell, Georgia (April 16, 2026). Antione T. Harvis moved to approve the listed trips; Tipi Miller seconded and the motion was unanimously approved.
The superintendent recommended declaring broken and/or outdated equipment surplus. Tipi Miller moved to approve the surplus; Antione T. Harvis seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
All recorded motions in this meeting were approved unanimously by the voting members listed in attendance: J. Kevin Royal M.D., Antione T. Harvis, Tipi Miller and Pearson Alsobrook.
