At its Jan. 27, 2026 meeting, the Opelika City Schools Board of Education approved a package of routine items including personnel recommendations, the 2026–2027 school calendar, an out-of-state student field trip and a project agreement with the City of Opelika.
The superintendent's personnel recommendations were approved on a motion by Antione T. Harvis and second by Tipi Miller; the minutes record the vote as unanimously approved. The board then approved the 2026–2027 school calendar on a motion by Antione T. Harvis, seconded by Pearson Alsobrook, also unanimously approved.
The board approved several out-of-state field trips. Notably, a March 13, 2026 4th Grade Enrichment trip for Morris Avenue, Northside and West Forest elementary schools to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Georgia Aquarium was approved (motion by Tipi Miller, second by Antione T. The board approved an increase in the State per-mile travel reimbursement rate for use of personal vehicles, citing a memorandum from the Office of State Comptroller, on a motion by Antione T.
