Cleburne County Board approves facility dog policy, FCCLA state trip and teacher leave

The Cleburne County Board of Education met Dec. 8, 2025, in Heflin and unanimously approved several superintendent recommendations, including a facility dog policy for CCMS, authorization for Cleburne County High School students to attend the FCCLA state conference in Montgomery on March 4–6, 2026, and a maternity leave request for Christina Strickland, a teacher at Fruithurst Elementary School.
The meeting opened at 5:00 p.m., with Board President Chad Smith declaring a quorum present. The board first approved the consent agenda — the meeting agenda, minutes of the Nov. 19 special called meeting and financial reports (October financial statement, October bank reconciliation, November checks 59300–59330 and statement numbers 3612 and 3622, and November payroll). The consent agenda motion was made by Jay Grubbs, seconded by Jerimy Bryant, and recorded as unanimous.
On superintendent recommendations, the board approved the CCMS Facility Dog Policy. The motion to adopt the policy was made by Owen McWhorter, seconded by Jay Grubbs, and unanimously approved. The board also approved the Cleburne County High School (CCHS) FCCLA trip to the state conference in Montgomery, Ala., on March 4–6, 2026; that motion was made by Jay Grubbs and seconded by Jerimy Bryant and recorded as unanimously approved.
Under personnel, the board granted a maternity leave request for Christina Strickland, teacher at Fruithurst Elementary School. The motion was made by Jay Grubbs, seconded by Owen McWhorter, and recorded as unanimous.
Agenda notes show Richard Ferguson was to address the board to recognize Adam Dasinger, Rudy Payne and PGES staff for 50 years of accreditation under SACS/Cognia (1975–2025). Superintendent David Howle recognized the district’s Child Nutrition Program staff for receiving a Healthy Meals Incentive Recognition Award for innovation in school meal preparation. The board scheduled its next meeting for Jan. 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Fruithurst Elementary.
