Flathead County commissioners voted Sept. 4 to authorize County Administrator Pete Melnick to sign the National Opioids Settlement Participation Form for secondary manufacturers. Melnick told the board the agreement follows state-brokered settlements and referenced Purdue and related manufacturer settlements; he said the settlement contains a roughly $16 million amount (80% directed to cities and counties) and that individual county shares will be calculated after sign-ups close.
Melnick said allocation to Flathead County has not yet been determined: counties that sign are tallied after the participation deadline and funds are then distributed. The chair put the motion on the floor; the commissioners approved the authorization by voice vote. Commissioners noted that historically opioid-settlement funds have been directed to the county health department and local co-responder programs, and that any received funds would be transferred to the finance department for distribution under the settlement's appendix.
