Colbert County Schools board unanimously approves multiple personnel actions, principal contract

Colbert County Schools board members approved a slate of personnel actions at a special-called meeting on Aug. 8, 2025, including resignations, new hires, transfers, approved leaves and a three-year contract for a high-school principal.
Superintendent Nathan Fuller recommended the personnel list “as presented,” which included resignations for Haley Moore (Special Education Teacher, Leighton Elementary School, effective Aug. 12, 2025), Brittany Roberson (5th grade teacher, Colbert Heights Elementary, effective July 28, 2025), John Johnson (Social Science Teacher, Colbert County High School, effective July 24, 2025) and Marilyn Shelly Hopkins (Physical Education Teacher, Cherokee Elementary, effective July 23, 2025). The board also approved multiple new hires and paraprofessional appointments with the effective dates shown on the agenda.
The board approved a voluntary transfer for Christopher Johnson from Hatton Elementary to Leighton Elementary as a Special Education Teacher, effective Aug. 1, 2025, and a long-term substitute appointment for Jamie McKee to serve as a Pre-K teacher at Leighton Elementary from Aug. 4, 2025, through Sept. 29, 2025. The board approved several contracted service appointments tied to the Stronger Connections grant, including services to visually impaired students and grant-funded positions with specified date ranges.
The board also approved a three-year contract for Shannon Edmondson to serve as principal of Cherokee High School. Leave approvals recorded on the agenda included catastrophic leave for Clayborn Frank Williams (Maintenance) for 12 weeks and FMLA for Seth Lewey (Assistant Principal at Colbert Heights Elementary School) effective Aug. 1–Aug. 31, 2025, with catastrophic leave (12 weeks) available to be used intermittently within 12 months.
A motion to approve the personnel slate was made by Rickie Saint, seconded by Steve Stayton, and the motion carried with a unanimous vote.
