During its Oct. 16 meeting, the School Board of Colbert County Schools unanimously approved technology purchases, declared surplus technology items and adopted a resolution to designate a USDA grant signatory.
Superintendent Nathan Fuller recommended two purchases: a three-year BeyondTrust Security & Remote Support subscription listed at $40,804.00 (the agenda listed funding for that item as Cyber Grant $16,875.80 and Local $26,346.00) and a three-year Fortinet Firewall subscription listed at $39,707.00 to be paid from Cyber Grant funds. The board voted to approve both purchases without amendment. (The agenda lists the funding split as presented to the board.)
Separately, the board declared multiple items surplus, including a broken ice machine at Hatton Elementary (asset #023763) and a number of end-of-life or decommissioned devices (various ACER tablets and Dell/Surface/phone models) that were listed for disposition. Jarrod Johnson moved the surplus declaration; Rickie Saint seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board also adopted a resolution assigning Matthew Osborn, Executive Director of Technology, the Representative-Signature-Certifier role in USDA's online application intake system to manage the USDA RUS Telecommunications Grant Award. David Yarber moved the resolution; Jarrod Johnson seconded and the board approved the resolution unanimously.
Motions for the technology purchases were moved by Rickie Saint and seconded by Steve Stayton; the motions passed unanimously. The board did not record additional debate on technical specifications or alternate vendors in the meeting minutes.
The district did not provide a total combined budget impact or lifecycle replacement schedule in the minutes; funding lines were reported on the agenda as noted above.
