Commissioners approve Buckle Up Montana and STEP grant agreements for safety programs

Flathead County commissioners on Oct. 7 authorized the county to sign a subrecipient agreement with the Montana Department of Transportation for the Buckle Up Montana program presented by Wendy Olson Hanson. Hanson said the health department checked 190 car seats and provided 56 to families in need last year and trained young drivers through "Alive at 25" events.
The board also approved a STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) subrecipient agreement intended to fund one deputy position for traffic enforcement; the funding identified in the meeting was $114,907 to cover salary, benefits and overtime for that position. Commissioners approved both documents by voice vote.
Commissioners thanked staff for compiling program data showing community impact and directed staff to execute the agreements and continue program reporting.
