Road & Bridge reports $243,000 in auction proceeds, plant barrel failure, and winter prep plans

Dave Prunty delivered the Road & Bridge monthly report on Septembers work and winter preparations, telling commissioners the department sold about $243,000 worth of equipment at a recent county auction and plans to use auction proceeds to support purchases, including road equipment and possibly the borough pug mill.
Prunty highlighted preparations for winter (installation of grader wings, planning for plows and sanders) and a plan to install a 5-foot-high orange flexible snow fence at Hodgdon to reduce closures.
He also reported a major maintenance need at the county asphalt plant: the plant's barrel (which dries aggregate before oil is mixed) has lost a section and needs replacement. "We gotta buy a new barrel is what it boils down to... It's over a $100,000," Prunty said, and staff are working with the manufacturer and the county's capital-improvement program to identify funding.
Prunty updated the board on other projects including a proposed chip seal on Rest Haven Road (contractor pricing to be sought), continuing asphalt overlay work that placed more than 17,000 tons of material in recent months, and the phase-1 reclamation submittal to DEQ for the Sheepherder pit, which the department planned to send the same day.
Commissioners asked follow-up questions about schedules and funding; no formal decisions beyond the report were taken during the update.
