Flathead County commissioners on Oct. 7 voted unanimously to take under consideration a $340,850 bid for a portable two-bin pug mill mixing plant submitted by West State Machinery Company of Billings.
"So the price is $340,850," the chair said while presenting the bid. A commissioner moved to take the bid under consideration and the motion carried by voice vote.
Commissioners and staff discussed the bid package on the dais after some initial confusion over vendor names and specification sheets. Road and Bridge reported that proceeds from a recent county equipment auction — about $243,000 — will be rolled back into equipment purchases, helping to offset the plant purchase if approved.
Road and Bridge staff said the pug mill is intended to support in‑county asphalt and aggregate mixing for local road maintenance; commissioners did not vote to award the contract and left the item for further review and verification of specifications, funding and delivery timelines.
The board did not set a date for awarding the contract and directed staff to bring specifications, funding arrangements and any vendor clarifications back to the commission for final action.
