Colbert County board approves personnel changes, vehicle purchases and athletics pay

The board also approved contract employment for Maryjane Hean (math interventionist) for Jan. 7–May 12, 2026, and long-term substitutes David Wiseman (band director) and Kala Murray (Pre-K teacher) for specified January–May terms. The board approved a proposed $500 monthly Child Nutrition Program (CNP) supplement for Karen McNatt to perform CNP managerial duties while the regular manager is on catastrophic leave; the supplement will begin immediately and continue until the manager returns. Vehicles and equipment: The board approved purchasing three Chevrolet Traverse SUVs (one for superintendent use; two for central office) at up to $41,000 each (an amendment increased the prior $40,000 cap to $41,000) and a dump truck for up to $90,000 for maintenance and transportation use. Superintendent Fuller recommended the amendment to raise the per-vehicle cap before final approval.
Athletics and pay: The board approved a change to the Athletics/Academics Supplement List adding Erin Lechman as assistant band director at Cherokee High School with a $1,800 supplement. The board also approved extended season pay for 2025–2026 fall sports with individual amounts listed in the minutes for coaches across varsity football, volleyball, cross country and competitive cheer.
Facilities and bids: The board rejected the bid for Colbert Heights Middle School Package B (canopy and sidewalk design) by Latham McKee Architects using A&T funds (Architect Job No. 25-72B; DCM#2025701) and authorized negotiation with Butler Construction, LLC on that project.
Consent and routine items: The consent agenda included approval of Nov. 20 minutes, two Cherokee High School FFA field trip requests for summer 2026, and a declaration of surplus items (2018 Hyundai Elantra, 2018 Kia Rio, 1997 F350 with dump bed) to be sold at fair market value. Motions to approve the amended agenda, the personnel items and the consent agenda were recorded as passing; for multiple motions the recorded votes show Jacqueline Witt's vote as not recorded after she did not return following executive session.
