Colbert County Schools board elects Jarrod Johnson president, approves payroll, hires and sale of two buses

The Colbert County Schools Board of Education elected Jarrod Johnson as board president and unanimously approved routine financial, personnel and facilities actions at its Nov. 20, 2025 meeting.
Board President Jacqueline "Jackie" Witt called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. and a quorum was established. Superintendent Nathan Fuller presented the consent and action items the board considered during the session.
The board approved reconciled monthly financial statements for August and September 2025. The minutes record August payroll at $2,695,103.35 and bills and accounts of $1,005,670.64; September payroll was $2,838,570.70 with bills and accounts of $3,435,710.51. Superintendent Nathan Fuller said all bank statements had been reconciled to the general ledger. The financial reports were adopted as part of the consent agenda by a unanimous vote of the board.
On personnel, the board approved a slate of hires and assignments recommended by Superintendent Fuller. Appointments include Dennis Moore as a physical education teacher at Cherokee High School, effective Dec. 1, 2025; several elementary and special-education hires effective Dec. 8, 2025; an interventionist contract for Holly Garner from Jan. 6–May 22, 2026; and multiple long-term substitute assignments and FMLA or paid parental leave entries for staff. The board recorded unanimous approval of the personnel items.
The board declared specified buses and all International bus parts inventory surplus and authorized disposal by sale, bid or scrapping. Minutes list two buses to be sold to Tuscumbia City Schools for $8,000 each (2016 F/L THOMAS C2 VIN 4UZABRDT7GCP7027; 2017 F/L THOMAS C2 VIN 4UZABRDT5HCHP5619). The surplus declaration was approved unanimously.
Board members also approved repairs related to storm damage at Colbert Heights High School's softball field. The dugout roof framing project (DCM Project 2025773) is to be performed by A-Corp Roofing & Restoration, with design by Create Architects, AIA, Inc. The minutes specify funding from the Department of Risk Management insurance claim reimbursement (less deductible) plus A&T funds; the board unanimously approved the contract.
Other approved items included adding Chloe Gargis as a program assistant for the girls' basketball program at Colbert County High School with a $1,000 supplement; authorization for a Colbert Heights High School DECA overnight field trip to Decatur on Dec. 17–18, 2025 (sponsored by Teresa Billingsley); and the appointment of Wendy Jones to the high school textbook committee for 2025–26. The meeting included an information-only correction to a prior leave end date (Kaci Colbert's leave now listed as ending May 1, 2026).
During its annual election of officers, the board nominated and voted unanimously to elect Jarrod Johnson as board president and Steve Stayton as vice-president. The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m. following a motion by David Yarber.
