After local speed studies, Cramerton approves three-way stop and speed humps

Assistant Town Manager Josh Watkins presented speed-study results for two neighborhoods and described both streets as Class A traffic issues because a majority of vehicles exceeded posted limits.
Cimarron Boulevard: Phase I (April 3–5) recorded 1,512 vehicles with an average speed of 22 mph and a top speed of 43 mph; 923 vehicles (61.04%) exceeded the posted limit. Phase II (April 5–7) recorded 1,773 vehicles, average speed 21 mph, top 44 mph; 1,064 vehicles (60.01%) exceeded the limit. Watkins said the combined final average was about 21.5 mph and that there were no reported collisions on Cimarron in the past 12 months. Commissioner Scott Kincaid moved to establish a three-way stop at Cimarron Boulevard and Timberlane Drive; Commissioner Dixie Abernathy seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Timberlane Drive: Phase I (April 12–14) recorded 856 vehicles (average 23 mph; top 43 mph) with 665 vehicles (77.68%) exceeding the posted limit. Phase II (April 22–24) recorded 1,032 vehicles (average 24 mph; top 43 mph) with 843 vehicles (81.97%) exceeding the limit. Watkins reported a final average near 21.5 mph and no collisions in the prior 12 months. Commissioner Dixie Abernathy moved to install two speed humps on Timberlane Drive; Commissioner Jennifer Ramsey seconded. The board approved the installation unanimously and directed that placement be determined by the Police Chief.
The board also adopted a standard speed-study request form to be included in future agenda packets so requests can be initiated on the consent agenda. The transcript records the study counts and classifications; it does not record precise installation dates for the three-way stop or speed humps.
