Cramerton commissioners approve Legacy Arch project, create scholarship fund

On Aug. 6, 2024, the Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a proposal allowing the Cramerton Historical Society to proceed with a Legacy Archway Project on town property.
Jeff Ramsey presented the arch as “a tribute to the town's history,” to be sited near the historic gym and the entrance to the Cramerton ballfield, alongside a historical marker for the ballfield. He said proceeds from the fundraiser will establish a scholarship to help children cover the cost of participating in town recreation programs.
Commissioner Dixie Abernathy moved to permit the Historical Society to proceed as presented; Commissioner Kathy Ramsey seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous. No funding appropriation from the town was recorded in the meeting minutes; the approval grants permission for the project to use town property as presented.
The project will proceed through whatever permitting and site preparation processes are required; the Historical Society will manage fundraising and the scholarship distribution, according to the presentation. The board did not specify a dollar amount for the scholarship during the meeting.
