"It would be so much better if the district were upfront about these challenges so that families can prepare students," Garcia said, asking for timely, honest updates and specific contact from board or district staff. She raised concerns that teachers feel burned out by an increasingly data‑driven approach and questioned the Paul Quinn College collaboration and lack of clarity around $500 bonuses tied to retention.
Garcia also asked Superintendent Michael McFarland how he would use his position on the state board for educator certification to combat voucher proposals, and said she plans to attend future meetings until the community sees meaningful change. Trustees acknowledged the concerns and said the district is monitoring staffing, communications and related matters; no policy action was taken during the hearing.
