Committee refers one-way, parking and handicap-parking requests to DPW, police or full council
Summary
The committee voted Feb. 24 to send a one-way street study to engineering/DPW, refer several handicap parking requests to police/DPW or to the full council, and table or forward items depending on documentation and current occupancy of permits.
The Lawrence Ordinance & Intergovernmental Relations Committee on Feb. 24 considered multiple traffic and parking items and took a mix of referrals, tablings and forwardings to the full council.
Councilor Gregor del Rosario asked that a cross-street between Manchester Street and Broadway be studied for conversion to a one-way street; the committee moved to send the request to the engineering department, DPW and police for review and recommendation. The motion carried on roll call.
Several handicap-parking items were discussed individually. For a handicap space at 4850 Juniper Street, members agreed the permit holder no longer occupies the house and moved to send the removal to the full council with a favorable recommendation (no public hearing was ordered). Other handicap requests were referred to the Police Department and DPW for field verification or tabled while handicap-status renewals are processed.
A SharCare parking request on Henlo Street was referred to the Lawrence Police Department and DPW and tabled pending their report. In each case the committee asked staff to return recommendations or documentation before scheduling final council action.
